Well here's my same old problem, and over the last 6 months or so I've learned some things, and gotten a little more confused. My car has a cold start problem.. I have an '86 900, 8v. What it does is as follows:
1.) I'll start it and it will idle fine for a few seconds, then start to flucuate between 1300 & 800 about. After awile it will smoothe out for the most part, but still a small flucuation.
2.) Other time is will do this, but more severly and go down to where it knocks, & ocasionaly stalls.
3.) Some times I will start it and it will be idling pretty smothy around 1000 or so, but if I give it any gas, it drops down to almost dead unless I let off the gas, & after a few min, it clears up.
4.) It also flucuates slightly, even when idling at its best, not nessisarily the RPM's but the sound at least-- Up & down, & not as much power as I know it should have.
Those are the things that happen and I've heard others describe some of these symptoms & there solutions, but either they havn't worked for me, or I'm not doing them right, or I don't know what the hell the peices your talking about are! I changed the Air mass Meter (does anythig need to be re-adjusted or set after I do this?) I tried cleaning the throttle plate & some of the tubbing. Replaced Air & fuel filter, ya know general things, and each time I started it & thought YES!! it worked, but about 8 hours later, same old crap!!=) Also I hear alot about vacume leaks & I need a detailed in depth explanation of how I would find a vacume leak, and what exactly would be considered one. I would love to fix this by myslef & not have to save up my $$ or use my college $$ for a mechanic! Please tell me suggestions & what will work on a 8 vaulve, not a 16v Turbo Please!! I know more about Turbos than my own! Please help me out Everyone with ideas! Thanks a Million!=)
