Suv's. Some people need them, for some it may be a perceived status or perhaps a feeling of security (6o% of SUV's are driven by women).
Ever commute on a major expressway that is very busy? It is nice to be able to see over the parking lot of cars to see what traffic ahead will bring.
Ever tow a boat with a Saab and launch from the beach?
I can not get my Saab more than 50ft up my 700 ft driveway in the winter. My old SUV's usually made it all the way and my Subaru always makes it with the limited slip differential option.
My old Isuzu trooper road better than a car and got 28mpg to boot. My old Blazer rode like a truck but could haul a heavy load. My old Mercedes was by far the best rough road car I have ever owned (in terms of ride).
The Saab 9000 has one of the crudest rear suspension systems that I have seen on a modern automobile. My Saab is not a good rough road automobile at all.
The parts prices on my older SUV's were never never as inflated as parts for my Saab. Perhaps some people prefer to pay their extortion money to the middle east wheras others prefer sleazy industrialists.
Don't condemm all SUV's and their owners for they may have a utiltarian purpose for their vehicles.
Have a nice day!
