Hey Guys,
I was just reading Quasi's post about his aero. I know his feelings so well. He got out of one car and the hopes that the next will be alot better. (No offense, Quasi)I've been there. When the slant-nose '91 - '92 9kt hatchbacks came out, I was in love. I thought and still think that is the best looking 9000 ever made. Back then, I couldn't afford it. I lusted for that car for years. They are so rare, that is is always a pleasure to see them. Now, I've gotten older and am able to offer more/"better". Three weeks from now, will make it one year since I purchased my '94 red aero with 46k on here. Standard shift, of course. Two months later, I did a 1,400 mile run through Montreal and Toronto, in five days. She was a beast. The seats felt as if I was flying first class. No backache, in comparsion to my '88 SPG.
Now, she has 68k on her, and was just hit with a funky timing chain guide mishap. About one inch off one of the plastic guides broke and jammed the chains. No warning. I current have the engine out, with the timing cover and head off. I am in the process of redoing it, in order to escape a $3,000 repair bill.
God, sometimes I wish Saab were as reliable as the Hondas. My ex-girlfriend has a 2000 Accord with 73k on her. She never took care of that car and that car is still running strong. I love saabs and had alot over the years. Now, I don't have a great deal of time to work on them, but can't talk myself to getting anything other then Saabs. I love the aeros and think they are really awesome, but I am concern that after this repair, others will follow. It sure leave a bad taste in the mouth. On one hand, you love the car, on the other you hate the annoying problems and expensive upkeep.
Guys, I am sorry to be going off like this. This Saab affair is a real sickness, that is hard to break.
Happy saabing!!!!
Patrick
