I'd rate the 9k being more difficult to maintain than the 900. Many parts are not directly accessible. I don't like the fact I have to take out the passenger side front wheel and wheel arch to get to the belt and accessaries. Removing the starter is a big headache. Removing the alternator and the power steering pump are not easy either. Fortunately I have not removed the heater core on the 9k. But if it more difficult than the 900, it would be a major PITA.
I like to work on the 1500cc Honda I owned more than 20 years ago. Weight wise it is like a 1/2 sacle 9k but everything is more accessible. My favorite is the Volvo 240. The engine compartment can fit an elephant, lots of elbow room.
