I'm working on replacing the clutch in my 88 9KT and have a few questions:
1. I've heard it's a good idea to replace the pilot bearing as well as the release bearing while the transmission is out. Where exactly is the pilot bearing and are any special tools required for replacement?
2. How heavy is the transmission?
3. Does using an engine hoist to raise & lower the trans. make the job a lost easier, or will a floor jack do just as well?
4. I read somewhere (I think on Townsend site) that the "Engine backing plate gasket (part 7563679)" should be replaced at this time. Where is this part located (on the car)?
For the record, here are the parts I'm replacing: Clutch disc & pressure plate, release bearing, pilot bearing, rear main seal, master and slave cylinder, master/slave hose, and resurface flywheel. TIA,
Bruce
