there were two main symptoms. One was boost taper - in other words, boost as shown on the dashboard gauge kept dropping back from its normal level. There could be plenty of other reasons for this to happen, of course. The BPC valve is a likely suspect, or poor fuel or a vacuum leak.
The other was an intermittent misfire, which severely reduced the engine's performance and pulling power. Typically this would last for about three or four miles and would then clear. Once again, lots of other things could cause a misfire – this happened on a little Lancia Appia Zagato I once owned when the cylinder head developed a crack.
I'm sure others can add their experience to the above.
First step is probably to treat youself to new spark plugs. Where this hasn't helped, standard advice is to borrow a good DI unit and see if that makes your problems go away before buying a new one.
