and without wishing to be too controversial, US drivers change their oil far more frequently than necessary. The servicing schedule that came with my 1993 CSE calls for the first change at 3,000 miles, the second at 12,000 and then at 12,000 mile or 12-month intervals. If your manual says 7,500 miles that's already almost 40% more frequent than the official UK schedule, so I think it's been re-written to suit US habits and why you should want to halve the interval again beats me! We have lousy traffic and tighter roads over here and I'm sure the average British car take more of a beating than the average American one.
Having said that, I do quite a few short trips so I have the car serviced every 6 or 7,000 miles or so and change the oil then, so can't get too smug about wasting resources (I do use synthetic). But if your oil is clean and consumption is low, I reckon you could afford to relax - and do your bit to save the planet :<).
