Here is what I did on my '93 CSET for dim EDU. Went to Radio Shack and bought a TIL41 Infrared NPN phototransistor ($1.49 + tax). Opened up module and replaced the existing part with the radio shack part (note Collector goes toward the outer edge of the PC Board - Thanks to TonyJ for that tip). There was no apparent part number on the original phototransistor that I replaced. Had one issue - Radio Shack part was slightly larger and had necked down leads designed to make the part stand off the board. It worked fine, but I had to remove the light tube (would not fit with the new phototransistor). Reassembled and it works great. Only difference is that now there is a hole (instead of a "window") where the ambient light enters the unit. No biggie to me. See previous posts by Martin on 22 Oct 02 and TonyJ on 13 May 02. Cheapest SAAB fix I ever experienced!
