If anyone did a scan on this board on stick/manual tranny's, and also did a scan on auto tranny's, my bet would be that that person would find more questions/concerns/problems with the sticks!!!!
This is also backed up by my Saab dealer service manager (who manages 2 different Saab dealerships) in stating that he has seen far more sticks come in for servicing (for more than a clutch replacement) than he has ever seen for auto's. He also informed me that the performance division of Saab was astounded when told of this belief that the auto is not worth a damn--they regularly "pump up" Saab's with upgrades far more than we could ever imagine doing in our own vehicles, and it's never the tranny in an auto car that fails when testing them.
I've upgraded my 9K to surpass that of a stock Aero (engine and suspension), and knock-on-wood, have experienced nothing but pure exhilaration from the car. Quite enjoyable to see the amazement on the people's faces as I overtake a "sports" car (M3, Jaguar, Lexus, Audi), many of which are sticks, in my auto-tranny beast!!!!!
On a side note: any tranny will eventually break-down, probably faster when abused, so keep that in mind.
