Removing the hose from the valve prevents the ecu from limiting the boost by opening the valve. If the ecu detects that the boost, as measured at the map sensor, is too high it will open the relay to the fuel pump to prevent damage to the engine.
The side effects from unregulated boost can vary from blown head gaskets to detonation and melted pistons.
This is a good experiment, but it doesn't prove that the valve is bad. It could be the valve, but ecus have many reasons for limiting the boost. Bad sensors, low octane fuel, etc.
I'd put a real pressure gauge on the intake and see how much boost you are seeing with the valve connected and go from there.
