Timing chain absurd and totally naive question ... Posted by Serge [Email] (#1363) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Serge) on Sun, 7 Sep 2003 04:38:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Ok guys, now it's time for me to go shameless and ask THE question I always wanted to ask : what the hell is the timing chain ?
- What does it look like ?
- Where is it ?
- What is the use of it ?
- Does every Saab have one ?
All these questions that must sound hilarious or stupid to the majority of the saabers eyes here are simply coming out 'cause I was naively thinking that a Saab has a timing chain OR a timing belt.
Knowing that I have a timing belt on my '92 9000 Cde - 2.3i - Auto, I was thinking that questions about the timing chain weren't a concern for me.
But reading a post below, about the timing chain of a similar car than mine makes me realise my mistakes.
Questions coming along :
- When servicing, does the official Saab mechanic dealer control the timing chain ?
- If not ... does it sound wise to put a new one in my car knowing that I am going to reach the more or less 120.000 kms ?
- and, if so ... what are the costs of that changement ?
- If you want to be aware of the timing chain state, what are the symptoms
you have to look for ?
I thank you all in advance for your kind attention, your patience facing my really poor mechanical knowledge and your tremandous patience if you have the will to get me out of ignorance ;-)
