You will see that the end of the cylinder comes to a very simple shape, a wedge. This wedge on the back of cylinder is what actuates the ignition and unlocks the steering.
If you able to remove the cylinder you will be able to start your car with a screwdriver. You can, obviously, draw your own conclusion about this fact, which BTW I as a good thing, considering I was not worried about theft.
