Thanks to those of you who helped me with my trouble-shooting here. The results:
-- It is NOT the felt-like lining around the sunroof frame.
-- It is NOT the copper tubes.
-- It is NOT a loose sunroof motor.
What was it? The slider on the passenger side that runs in the tracks (one per side) is a little loose. Nothing that can be done short of replacing it. Tried some jury-rig fixes, but couldn't fix it. The bracket seems as if its metal has flexed out of shape.
So now, to stop the sunroof rattles (only happens when in fully-closed position), I just barely blip the sunroof button in the tilt direction. Not so much that the roof goes into the tilt position, but just a LITTLE. This tightens up the bracket and sliders just enough, I think. Will test this on a road trip today.
