Thanks for the help Bobs.
The problem ended up being an incorrectly placed clip on the timing control valve in the valve body. It wasn't allowing the valve to stroke.
That fixed 1st, but still no upshift or so much slippage that it might as well not be shifting.
Then pulled the governor valve body and it turned out there was some debris causing one of the valves to stick. Cleaning fixed that.
Then on a test drive I got it up to about 70 and engaged the cruise control, no problems. When I tapped the brakes to dis-engage cruise the speedo dropped to zero and stayed there. No cruise after that as well.
So I pulled the speedo sensor and checked it with an ohmmeter and it appears to work fine (used a dremel tool to spin it fast enough).
So, I checked all the fuses, all fine.
I stuck a little screwdriver into the speedo receptecle on the tranny thinking that if the speedo gear was stripped/etc that I could turn it. Did not turn.
Could just be the speedometer itself I guess. The only way I can think of to check that is to stick my little screwdriver back into the receptecle and roll the car a bit to see if it turns, if it does I guess that'll mean its the speedometer itself???
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
