I'm posting this for my dad, who is currently limping home from CT to MA. While driving on the highway this morning the car developed a sudden misfire while going uphill (he's towing a trailer so I'm guessing it was putting out a good amount of boost). There was no smoke or bad/expensive engine sounds at any time.
He pulled over & swapped in his spare DI, which didn't cure the problem. The #2 plug looked different, with gray deposits on it.
He drove to a shop, who plugged in the OBD scanner & got a code of #2 misfire (surprise). They borescoped it, and the piston looks fine, it's not losing coolant/oil, no signs of impact with valves. He decided to pull the plug on the injector and crawl home off-highway.
We're guessing maybe a valve stuck slightly open-anyone have a similar occurence or other possible thoughts? We figure if it stuck closed the cyl wouldn't misfire, and if it were all the way open it would have hit the piston.
