Fix for intermittent starting problems and low voltage

Hi,
Over the past 6 months I have had an intermittent problem with starting on a 9000CS. It would crank but not start and indicated a low battery voltage 9-9.5V. I was told it was probably a bad fuel pump so replaced it, no change. Likewise the battery, no change. I finally got sick of it so did it myself.
With an electronics background I was worried by the large voltage drop on start, figuring the puter shutdown at low voltage preventing start.
To cut a long process short, I removed and opened the relays to see if there was any problems. The Main system relay was the culprit(the one with the larger pins). It's contacts were blackened and pitted. I could not buy one so polished the existing one with emery and now the car starts every time with a voltage reading of 11.3V with same battery that before dropped to 9.5.
Try it first before all the others as it is cheaper and more than likely the fault if older car.
Good luck
