At this point it's just curiousity with mine rather than a problem; given enough time, it hasn't failed to start, except when there was a real problem like failed pump. The extended cranking just appears to be something that occurs more frequently with these cars and an accepted fact that it's the nature of the setup.
Someone used to another car might not allow the car to crank long enough and release after three rotations, and then wonder why it's not starting. I know I had to tell my friend to just persist when starting, and then it was a non-issue, as you've all mentioned.
Both of my 93 Saabs have the same characteristic, so in my limited universe of two, they generally don't start up with a blip of the key like the other cars I have (unless I've had them in storage for months and restarting for the first time).
