There's a fuss going on in the oil world right now. The EPA is pushing 120K-mile catalyst warranties. Even trace amounts of various extreme-pressure additives usually found in oils can poison the catalyst if they get into the exhaust. So the new SAE SM oil spec mandates a reduction in these additives - good for catalysts but bad for anything that slides.
Some manufacturers are rebelling and refusing to approve use of SM-rated oils in their cars. IMO anything SM-rated is to be avoided. And if you care about oil life past 5000mi or so you want to look for the ACEA A3/B3 ratings and/or BMW LL01.
The SL-rated Mobil1 0W-40 used to be good stuff. Mobil claims the SM-rated 0W-40 still meets LL01, but lots of folks are scratching their heads wondering how. Note that Mobil1 oils run thin, so you have to go to a 40-weight to get similar viscosity to anyone else's good 30-weight.
The new Mobil 1 Extended Performance line is what the old SL-rated Mobil 1 was.
Now, another choice for you. The Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 is a good Group III oil (some would call it a pseudo-synthetic, but it's good stuff) sold primarily as a diesel oil but it's SL-rated for gasoline-engine use, it's got a healthy dose of EP additive for cam lobe life, I use it in various cars.
