no base boost - please guru! Posted by Peter [Email] (#2804) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Peter) on Thu, 5 Jan 2006 13:35:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am running out of things to test for and getting a bit frustrated...bought my '88 9000 Turbo 2 yrs ago with blown headgasket, fixed it, for about 3 weeks I had minimal boost but I actually felt the turbo working..then it stopped because I reused the exhaust manifold nuts and two fell off and one loosened so the whole right half was separated from the head so oil was spraying out onto the distributor area that's how I found it, ok so I installed the new gasket and nuts, still nothing, meanwhile I always had the too much smoke at the tailpipe so I rebuilt the turbo (all crudded up), now it spins like a top, checked small hoses for leaks, wastegate, bypass valve, apc valve (two wire), brake switch, pressure sensor, cruise control works, pressure tested the intercooler and it holds pressure, new catalytic converter...still: not even base boost! the gauge and second pressure gauge I hooked up show heavy vacuum, doesn't even get up to atmospheric press, always running in mid white area...just failed smog in CA, they said some leak causing 138 ppm HC at idle otherwise running very clean...I saw the guy sticking a rag into the tailpipe a couple of times(?!) there is probably a hole in the muffler, it just runs sluggish like it really needs that extra breathing from turbo...I SUSPECT a clogged exhaust pipe? would you think? how do you clean that? stick a wire through? ANY SUGGESTIONS?? THANKS!!!
