Hey, This same thing happened to me in my 889kt not too long ago. I was getting 14mpg on the HIGHWAY!!! going from home in central MA to school in Troy NY. I replaced my air filter and also noticed that my pcv (breather?) was just hanging out of the valve cover. Plugged this back in and my mileage came back. You say your PCV is relatively new and your air filter as well so i don't know what else othre than check the gap on your plugs.
