My philosophy is to let sleeping slave cylinder lie. I never change it unless I have to. Although I think the engineer (or executive) who made the decision to put the slave inside the bell housing of the gear box on the 9k should be fired, I have never had a slave gone bad on me.
The only time I replaced it, I had to because the transmission I got from the conversion package has been sitting outside for a few years the slave is shot.
And guess what I stripped a screw out of three which I had to drill it out. Yes I replaced it with a grade 10.9 hex head.
