Yes the balance shaft chain has no marks such as the timing chain, the chain position is not important. My question refered to the marks on the inlet and exhaust balance shaft behind each sprocket.
If you set the marks and place the chain on without the upper chain rail the inlet balance shaft mark behind the sprocket will settle in one position. When you install the chain rail it sends the chain into an arc which effectively pulls on the chain and shortens the distance between the shaft centers. This changes the position of the inlet balance shaft mark by one tooth on the sprocket.
My question is do you set the marks before or after the upper chain rail is attached?
