Planning on picking up a 1993 9000 this week, when I test drove it the ABS light was on intermittently. Shop diagnosed this as bad rear wheel bearing and ordered the (used) parts (both sides). This newer bearing has a different amount of "teeth" in it than the existing one, 45 vs 92 or so. Another shop told them the design changed in 1990, and that most likely someone either replaced both bearings or swapped out the entire rear axle at one point. They are going to check the front bearings to see which version is mounted there; consensus is that the front and rear should have the same number of teeth in order for the ABS to function properly, but the other shop they contacted said that it would work even if the 2 designs were mixed.
Worst case scenario, assuming the front bearings don't match the newer ones, will the ABS function properly, or would the front bearings also need to be replaced?
I found a picture of the existing bearing on the 9000 wheel bearing page at thesaabsite.com, but the shop wasn't able to locate a part number specifically for the 1993 9000 in their saab catalog and they told me the dealership was no help.
