Not to be too dramatic - but the '92 9KT and '93 9KT/Aero are NOT like
other model years in MANY important ways.
To start with - '93 was the very 1st Aero year and some were good, and
some were just big holes to throw money into - I had one (as well as a
'92 9KT which I sold before it became problematic...).
My '93 was a great drive but from the very first day it needed periodic
'snacks' of $1000 bills - starting with a NEW OEM ETS throttle body.
The electronics on the '93 Aero are unique to that model/year too - and
the reason I had to part with mine was that it needed a computer which
fit that exact model/year ONLY and was over $1200 new from Saab, and I
was sick and broke so I had to pass the car along.
I do know what happened to it from then to it's end though - the next
owner did get the unit it needed and it was not enough, so he did what
he could and passed it off to his brother, who eventually did get it
fixed and it was OK until it got so rusty that he sold it for parts to
a really nice guy who also happens to be a poster here at TSN and it
left this world as parts.
Later I also had a '94 Aero WITHOUT TCS or ETS and it was a totally
different car under the hood, and would never have needed the $1000
cash infusions the other one did if it had not met up with 2 moose
one fateful night all too soon after I had it...
I recently bought another '94 (non-TCS) Aero and my daily driver is
a '91 9KT.
Having a 900 is NOT good preparation for a '92 or '93 with TCS/ETS
and as Bill Homer and Bill U. already said - be very, very careful !
IF the car is in great shape AND exceedingly cheap to the point that
you can part it out for what you paid when it barfs then I'd say to
buy it because of the few Aeros ever built, having one no matter how
briefly is a life-changing experience and not to be missed - but if
it is not dirt cheap you may live to regret buying it when it gets
'hungry' !!!
Best Wishes,
mark

It makes me drool when I visit it !
