The best and worst thing about Saabs is their reputation.

Their bad rap to the uninformed public is outstanding for those of us that know, truly, what the cars are all about.

I'd mention a few other points that I didn't see covered.

1) I don't really recommend setting your sights on a specific year/color car. You should always buy the cleanest, most well maintained Aero possible, be it a 94 Aero or a 98 CSE. I personally avoided the 93's as they were an oddball year of parts/electronics. When I bought my 94, the guys at the independent shop that did the pre-purchase inspection mentioned that all the techs commented on how clean the car was (exterior body work and interior as well as engine bay). That 94 now needs a trans replacement at 235K miles. I went to test drive another local Aero to decide if I should just pick up another car. It was nice, but nowhere near as clean as mine so I'm going to replace the trans. I usually like to pick up used parts at wrecking yards, but I've noticed in my area, Saab parts are few and far between. Keep that in mind when you go to purchase.

2) At some point you will need a capable Saab specific independent Saab repair facility. Make sure there is one in your town that is reputable.

3) For what it's worth, the best upgrades I've made were the 3" turbo back exhaust from JIT and Bilstein struts/shocks. The exhaust really woke up a sleeping giant and I still haven't done the injectors or ECU upgrade. You can really feel the turbo spooling up now. The Bilsteins are only noticeably stiff on very low speed bumps. Other than that, they manage the car's balance quite well.

Go to the link below and do an archive search for Saab and see what comes up. It's usually a post about "should I buy a Saab followed by several people claiming that Saabs are garbage followed by a wealth of knowledgeable people laying the smack down on why Saabs rule so much.
