Last summer my A/C would would kick out periodically and blow warm air only. I was instructed here to adjust the compressor clutch shims. But so far this year I have had no probs so I did not do that. I have the Sanden compressor and I have not seen the step by step procedure for that mfr. - another reason to put it off.
So the A/C worked just fine as of yesterday, last night. This afternoon at 88 degrees I went out and started the car for the first time to cool it down - 5 minutes later I got in and it was blowing hot air. AND there was a slight smell of burnt electrical smell blowing in.
I started it much later today after a cool rain and still no A/C.
Observations:
- The compressor does not engage at all, even after tapping it with a hammer at the face of the clutch.
- All fuses seem fine, but the little black A/C Pressure Guard relay (H) in the engine bay was very hot compared to its neighbors after two hours of cooling.
- three days ago I got in the car and the battery was dead. After trying a re-start it began hooting at me like an owl every few seconds - I think it was the alarm. Got that shut off. Jumped it and got home. Trickle charged overnite and has been fine.
- before the above happened I noticed that my burnt out headlight idiot light was on and the highbeam icon was on, but I could not turn it off using the steering column stalk. I yanked the relays after finding the dead battery and reinserted. The idiot light issue was gone after jumping the car.
So, where do I start please?
