I've got to ask:
Plugs- new, old, regapped? .9 mm; NGK's. How's the color? Little dark like too rich- or fouled?
You are getting no codes, so the ECU thinks that all is well. So, something is causing the ECU to meter in too much fuel.
Vac lines can cause a too rich condition, but one this bad and consistant would, most likely throw a code. Again, a bad FPR would also cause a "too rich" code. So, I'm thinking MAP.
An out of spec MAP- functional- but bad values. Ari has a nice write-up on the MAP. THis will definitely cause the ECU to dump too much fuel.
I don't own a Trionic unit, but I think it still gets input from a coolant temp sensor which may cause a slightly too rich/too lean condition.
Clean the IAC- no help for mileage but may smooth the idle once you find the source of the other issue.
AT 22 mpg there is something most definite wrong- easy 28 at 70 with the auto.
Oh, you don't run 100+ MPH everywhere, do you? :)
Let us know what you find.
All the best,
Kevin
