At idle the vacuum is a solid 17" hg.
At cruise we are looking at 4-5" hg.
High vac test shows about 21-22" hg.
At boost the gauge read ambient- so the check valve is working! Good thing!
So, I think that most likely there are 2 issues going on here. Street and Ari see if this all sounds correct.
Most likely, one or more of the guide seals (new) was installed incorrectly, premature failure, or because I didn't verify that the seals were actually installed- maybe they didn't get replaced. I gave them the set from the EEuroparts seal kit. The valves were lapped, so I know that they were pulled from the head. I really like the shop manager and head machinist, so I hope not the latter.

I read an article about installing the seals dry. When I re-installed the head, I did not pre-lube the stems. However, I did crank the engine for 3 sessions of 20 sec. to push oil to the top end. Should I have lubed the stems prior to fitting the followers? Hope I didn't screw it up, because it smoked like a destroyer upon starting and then sloowy deminished after I drove around a while.
I have to do a bit more research, but I think the seals are replacable without pulling the head. I found a spring compressor tool for 58.00 and I think that compressed air is used to hold the valve in place. Sound correct?
The car does have 270K on it so, if it is not the seals, could oil be actually sucked past the compression and oil ring into the cylinder under the high vac test? With 165 psi readings across all 4 the rings are not too bad.
I am kinda tired of thinking about this. I've been dealing with hurricanes and hurricane evacuations and the threat of another one in the coming days and I just am having a hard time getting the energy to re-do this one.

All the best and thanks Street and Ari for the guidance.
K
