I assume that by the clock resetting, you mean that it forgets the time and goes to 12:00. Probably not the ignition switch.
The clock gets two power sources- the switched source just provides the lighting; there is an unswitched source that keeps the time. As the name implies, the unswitched source is always on, and doesn't go through the ignition switch or the main relay. If you lose the unswitched source for a second, the clock will reset.
As to having to remove and re-insert the key, I've seen that before. It's not the switch, but the lock mechanism. It may be part of the steering wheel lock/shifter interlock cable. The ignition assembly is really two pieces - the key lock tumbler/column lock mechanism, and the electrical ignition switch itself. The switch bolts on the back of the key lock tumbler, and is connected to the tumbler by a shaft. The electrical ignition switch portion has no mechanical impact on the key.
Replace fuse 19 - that's the keep alive power for the clock (and other stuff). Even if it looks fine. I've seen blade-style fuses that look just fine, but are intermittent. Fuses are cheap.
The other place to look is good old Grounding Location 8. This is a ground point to the chassis, under the left hand speaker grille in the dashboard. This is the grounding point for the clock, along with the ignition switch, headlight switch, and a bunch of other stuff. A bad ground there will cause all sorts of ghost problems.
