It was fairly common back in the days that the vent tube stress cracked right where the little hose nipple is molded to the vent tube due to a mismatched angle right where it dives into the tank.
I haven't replaced one of those in many years due to that the 86-89 models are more or less obsolete by now and in 90 they changed the design.
By loosening the tank straps so that the nuts are just a few threads on, the tank can be lowered just enough to pry out the old pipe. No need to worry about damaging the old one. Put lots of silicone lubricant on the new pipe and slide it into the tank rubber bushing. The new pipe is a lot more flexible and you do need to tweak in slightly to get it in there if you don't want to drop the tank further down.
P/N for that pipe is 8981607 and it is a dealer item only IF? you can find one laying around somewhere. They are not in stock anymore.
