Both the oils are in the same viscosity range when at operating temperature.
The 5W- will pump up a bit faster in extreme cold, but you most likely wouldn't notice it.
The 10W- might be a little more stable (less prone to evaporation in high temperature conditions), but again I wouldn't worry about it.
If you've been using a good synthetic for many years, the internal wear will be minimal, and there is no advantage to switching to a thicker (higher viscosity) oil. If you start using oil at an unacceptable rate, changing to a higher viscosity oil might help reduce consumption.
I'm running either 5W-30 or 0W-30 in my Saabs and Volvo, 120-150,000 miles
