IMHO, neither car is what you really need. And are sort of an apples/oranges comparison.

The track car sounds great and is probably fun to drive, but may be too close to being purely a track car, as opposed to a solid daily driver that sees some track time. It sounds as if it has been built up right, but the springs, roll cage and other goodies that work great on a track may not make it the best daily driver with your kid back. Does it actually *have* a back seat? And it has TCS, which is a bit of a crapshoot. Plus, when you need something done to it you may need non-stock parts which can make it more expensive to run.

Car #2 is priced closer to reality IF the car is in great shape, not so good if it's in "normal" condition, but either way the mileage is an issue. If it's been taken care of I worry less about the engine than the tranny, but you really need to know a bunch about its service history and what it's likely to need. Stuff like radiator, water pump, serp belt and pulleys, DI, heater core, mounts, shocks/struts, brakes. However, if it needs some of this and you can DIY, you can maybe save some money overall if you replace stuff as needed.

The 9K is a wonderful car (I have 2) but if you are able to spend the $6K for car Number 1, consider finding a newer car, either a newer 9K or a 9-3. There are plenty of CSE models around still and they are more likely to have been more moderately driven than an Aero with a lot of miles.
