Okay. Enough! Yesterday the left turn indicator started flashing at double speed (compared to the right), denoting bulb failure. Sure enough, one of the left rears was out. I detached the wiring connector and removed the circuit. OF COURSE, the *?$%! bulb holder separated from the box. I have previously, UNSUCCESSFULLY attempted to ;
1. Melt the abs pins over the holes on top of the metal holder;
(insufficient material).
2. Epoxy the metal holder to the abs;
(heat failure).
3. Gorilla glue the metal holder to the abs;
(heat failure).
4. Drill the abs and screw down the metal holder;
(overtorqued the screws).
5. Loop and twist wire through holes drilled below the metal;
(wire cut through the abs).
6. Drip melted plastic over the metal holder;
(subsequent heat failure).
This time I drove an hour to Daytona, where I scoured a boneyard for the one and only Cash For Clunkers 9000 and paid $6 for both bulb boxes. I put the left one in, turned the key, pushed the stalk down, and it worked! The right side did too. As luck would have it, as I drove off, the dash indicator arrows went dark. I couldn't believe it. I pulled the passenger fuse/relay down and wiggled the white flasher relay. *&$! NOTHING! Had to use hand signals to get home. Once there, I pulled the cover off the flasher and re-installed it. When I pushed the circuit board to the side, it worked. Hmmm. Solder? YEP! All it took was to reflow the solder on all seven pins. Turn signals again! It amazes me to think how many of these components can be repaired instead of being replaced.
Happy Trails
