Vibration on an auto in D is probably more due to that they either installed poly bushings in the upper motor mount or turned the regular motor mounts the wrong way when pushing them in or that the used after market motor mounts instead of Saab genuine.
I have removed quite a few chain setups in the 94 to 97 900 NA engines and they seems to be doing ok.
For some strange reason I have yet seen any 94-98 900/9000T engines having bad balance sprockets and chain but seen a multitude of non turbo ones with completely trashed balance shaft sprockets (not crank shaft sprockets like the 91-92 9000).
