be best. Get something safe and solid, maybe a domestic beater as you alluded to.
Lived in Colorado highland for a while, she'll need A/C even if it is dry heat 8-) and cools down fast at night.
The 9000 A/C is a big expense; had a 92 9K, problematic with A/C but I think the later 9K A/C with R34 is a bit more reliable. I still drive a 1995 Aero, no problem with A/C since new.
However, in your case, you will be throwing parts at the car until the A/C works. I would incline not to do that as you would be gambling on the repair work.
How about giving her YOUR car ? It's still ok not to have A/C in New England for you right ?? You can drive her car until you find a replacement or until she gets back. I know it sounds drastic but you're her Dad 8-).
