OK, this is biased, since I've been using and selling AMSOIL for over 30 years now.
The synthetic normally runs cooler, which provides longer life. It is more resistant to breakdown. It offers an additional margin of protection in case of of mechanical problem. As an example, a friend's commuter van had a transmission cooler line ripped off by some road debris. The driver didn't realize it for a long time. The transmission dumped a lot of fluid, then went into limp mode. Remaining had turned very dark. However, oil analysis showed that the fluid, while it had increased in viscosity, was still suitable for continued use--and there were no indications of abnormal internal wear. Line was replaced, fluid was replaced, and that tranny is still running about 4 years later. Had he been running non-synthetic, think the tranny would have been toast.
To me, it is worth it.
