David, you do remember correctly, the marks on the cam sprockets should be right at the very top, and perpendicular to the head surface - and that's where they are. Moreover, both cam marks point exactly at the corresponding notches on the chain end camshaft cap.
Additionally, the lobes for that cylinder, #1, point horizontally away from the head's centerline. Thus, all four valves are closed and at TDC of the compression stroke.
We still don't know why the flywheel doesn't show the 0 degree mark and numeral through the inspection window, (because it's at the bottom position for some unexplained reason).
The only way for me to find out is to pull the timing chain cover, and see where the crankshaft sprocket mark is, but I suspect it's incorrectly) pointing toward the head.
My original post (pasted from Word) showed some hyeroglyphics on the screen at home. It shows different hieroglyphics on my screen at work. They probably also show up on everyones screen. My apologies, I won't use Word until I fix it. Thanks!
