Thank you gentlemen, V usefull / reassuring info, 2 litre lore is quickly disapearing.
I expected the 2 fasteners to be there, just hadn't tripped over them ..yet.
Freezing might help? In the past a dead blow mallet has proven useful, hopefully so again. Once I get it that far.
'Next' engine gets Steam cleaned before wrenching on it. Methodically transferring accumulated grease and crud to my hands/tools/rags and coveralls is wayyy too tedious.
Not overly concerned about the appendix bit of headgasket that will /does take damage. It has Nothing to do with cyl/head sealing. It's just a seal against the top of the timing chain cover.
I'll apply a v thin layer of ThreeBond 1211 sealant.
Highly recommended, by the way.. Very thin and Very effective sealant (not free though). When applied/painted to mating metal faces it can subsequently be pulled off in a single almost transparent thin piece.. v nice!
IMO it makes 518 Anerobic seems like Fred Flintstone's favourite.
It's also well proven as a HG substitute on Moto engines.
