Strut Bearings: What's good enough? Posted by DickT [Email] (#1628) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DickT) on Sat, 17 Sep 2011 06:25:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a fair collection of old strut bearings. They all feel dry and have various degrees of mild roughness so that you wouldn't want to use them on a rotating shaft. They are tight, though, and I doubt you could tell them from new by steering wheel feel. I'm aware of the difference in loading in this application and get why the balls go out of round.
I realize that a mechanic doing a customer car would CYA and replace with new, but having never seen one fall apart, I'm curious what the lifespan is and whether I should buy new for my new struts or take a chance on the best of the old.
