'97 CSE - underseat amp powers front speakers or not? Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Sun, 12 Feb 2012 09:35:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Looking through the board there seems to be conflicting information on this. My '97 CSE has the AM/FM/Cassette unit with separate CD deck (no changer). I have sent the head unit out to SaabRadio for repair. Turnaround time is probably going to be a couple of months, but I have a cheap generic car stereo laying around that I'm thinking of installing temporarily, connected just to the front speakers. (I have some small spade lugs that can be used to plug wires into the factory harness.)
Problem is I can't figure out whether the front speakers are powered directly by the external amp or not, I'm seeing postings indicating both. Also there are conflicting reports as to whether the amp can accept speaker outputs from an aftermarket stereo or if low-level signals from a preamp are required as input.
Anyone have a definitive answer? (This is not worth doing major rewiring for. If this radio can't be easily made to work with the front speakers I can always just use a boom box in the passenger seat for a while...)
