While an old blower may work fine when hooked up to 12V, the issue with many older blowers is that they draw excessive current through the fan speed resistor, frying it, when installed in the car.
Many a 9000 owner has been left puzzled why their perfectly-functioning fan motor (out of the car) either doesn't work at all in the car, or only works on full blast. The answer is the excessive current, which is the real problem. You'd hate to install that motor in your car and have it take your fan speed controller out!
Wish I knew how one could test for excessive current on a working motor. Anybody got any expertise in that matter?
