Factory stereo amp input question

I'm looking to upgrade my stereo from the current aftermarket Kenwood to one with the RCA pre-outs and reconnect everything to the factory HK amp. I read through Tarheels post on the wiring and noted he mentioned the pre-out voltage on the aftermarket CD player he got was 5v, but all the receivers I'm finding are only 2v. Does anyone know the normal input voltage these amps are rated at? Amps I've looked on Crutchfield list input voltage at 14.4v which seems pretty high for line inputs.
