There are 2 engine temperature sensors. One in the cylinder head between the #2 and #3 intake ports senses engine temperature for the Trionic engine control, and another on the transmission end of the cylinder head for the EDU which runs the engine temperature gauge and hi - low radiator fans.
For 95 and newer 9000’s the low speed fan will come on only when the EDU senses the engine temperature is too high, and for up to 3.5 minutes after the ignition switch is off. An additional relay (H in fuse box in front of battery) prevents the A/C pressure switch from running the low fan with the key off.
For radiator fan problems look at the sensor on the end of the cylinder head. Is the engine temperature gauge reading as expected? If so the sensor is not likely to be a problem. Resistance of temp sensor is 6K at 86F, and 300 Ohms at 176F. Check both hi and low fuses (#2 #3 #4), and then replace both hi (E) and low (M) relays. Otherwise there could be ground problems (behind head lights) or connection – wiring issues.
