Car is a 96 9000CS, but the issue is universal.
The aluminum pipe comes out of the intercooler is cool to the touch - the intercooler did its job. But, the pipe becomes hotter and hotter as it rises to the rubber intake boot. It becomes very hot (did not measure it) by the time it reaches the boot. Seems to be a shame.
I fashioned a heat shield to reflect back most of the radiant heat from the engine block out of a flexible/telescopic aluminum duct used in the household heating system. Th duct is 3" in diameter, I cut an one-inch strip longitudinally the entire length of the duct to allow heat to escape from the aluminum air-intake pipe. It actually looks decent and I had high hopes.
But, the top portion of this aluminum intake pipe is just as hot as before (I did not take an after-reading). Seems to be an wasted effort.
Your thought?
