Crap! The alt from the Aero that wasn't charging tested good but the bearings are noisy. The 93 alt from the old CSE I scrapped tested bad. I should've followed Ari's advice on an old post and pulled the thin D+ wire off before removing everything to see if it was grounded somewhere, causing the alt to not charge. I guess it doesn't matter too much since the bearings are going anyway. It does mean that I could have a bare wire that I need to find in the D+ circuit. I also removed the VR last night to get a look inside so I guess it's possible I may have remade a suspect connection where the VR contact is. I did clean things up on both alternators while I had them apart. It looks like I'll buy a new 120A alt from AutoZone and troubleshoot the D+ wiring when I put it in. I found a couple things that needed attention anyway so it wasn't a total waste.
