Installed fuel pump today Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Thu, 29 Sep 2016 11:00:13 In Reply to: Fuel pump choices, JerseySaab [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 17 Sep 2016 08:37:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just to give this thread some closure, I went ahead and installed the new fuel pump today and the car fired right up. Have not changed the fuel filter yet though and so won't take it out on the road quite yet. (The fuel pump can be installed from inside the car. Have to get underneath for the filter and weather is miserable and wet today.)
I did cheap out and bought the $55 pump cartridge at Eeuroparts. It's actually a pretty nice kit that includes a genuine Made-in-USA Walbro pump, a new rubber mount, fuel line to attach the pump, and hose clamps. Installing the pump cartridge added maybe an hour to the job versus dropping in a complete assembly, well worth it to save $250. Hopefully nothing will go wrong with anything else in there for a while!
I also installed a new lock ring since one of the tabs broke off the original. Fortunately the fuel lines and fittings didn't give any trouble. (I purchased a set of fittings just in case, will put those aside in the event they're needed later.)
