This is the 2nd time I've replaced the fuel pump in this car. The first pump failed at about 280,000 miles. (I don't know if it was the factory original. Replaced it with a Walbro pump cartridge.) The car now has about 322,000 miles, so I'd definitely call this a premature failure.
From what I can see you need to at least take the basket out if not apart to tell whether you have 8mm (single barb) or 6mm (triple barb) pump. The late 9000s use the 6mm type. Eeuroparts lists the 6mm pump for '90-'91 and '93-'98 9000.
I'm thinking of doing a pre-emptive fuel pump replacement on my '95 CSE that has a little over 100,000 miles on the clock. For $55 and a couple of hours of pretty easy work it seems like cheap insurance.
