Auto trans shifting and slipping problems - '97 CSE Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Sun, 2 Oct 2016 13:21:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just put my '97 CSE back on the road after replacing the fuel pump and now all of a sudden the automatic transmission is acting up.
I don't think it's the governor seals. I replaced those a few years ago, and the symptoms are different. What's happening is the trans won't change gears while driving even with the shifter. Then when you let up off the gas it slams into top gear. Also it randomly loses drive, the engine just races until you pull over and stop. Then it's stuck in 1st gear again and behaves as previously described. This just started happening today after driving a few miles. (Initially when I started driving the trans worked normally.)
Transmission fluid is clean and at the proper level. The car was recently towed when the fuel pump failed, but that was done on a flat bed so that should not have affected anything. So is the transmission shot? Or maybe it's just something sticking in the valve body? The kickdown cable?
Basically if the transmission is toast this is now a parts car. (It's quite rusty and his high mileage - over 330K.)
