I removed the cruise control module (ECU) which is part number 44 33 108. The cover has stamp saying "AC Rochester". It says SAAB on the outside, but it is GM on the inside.
This module is the first of 3 generations of cruise modules that don't rely on vacuum. I think the part was common to the '95 and '96 model years. The 2nd generation was part number 46 63 514 ('97 model year), and the 3rd generation was part number 50 38 849. The 3rd generation is backward compatible with the 1st and 2nd, and the 3rd generation is considered the best of the breed per a comment by Anders many years ago. If you order a new cruise module for a '95-'98 9000 they'll ship you the 3rd generation part.
The cover is attached with four T15 torx screws. The module was slightly dusty inside, and I blew it out with compressed air. Inside the cover is a date stamp indicating the cover was made the 2nd week in Sept. of 1995.
The back side of the circuit board faces you when you remove the cover. It is covered in a thick coat of clear sealant, probably to resist moisture and corrosion. Most of the pads look good which doesn't mean they are in fact good. The tip of my soldering iron doesn't have much effect, perhaps due to the sealer.
I'm stumbling in the dark, and probably the best thing I can do is replace it with a new to me part 50 38 849.
