Funny. I traded in a 2007 GMC Canyon (GMs version of the Colorado) for my first SAAB, a 2006 9-3 SportCombi (I wanted something a with a little more road grip but wanted practicality of the wagon)....I fell in love, now 5 saabs later I daily drive a 96' 9000 aero, splitting some time with a 2004 9-5 wagon and my wife just brought in a new to us 2010 9-3 Sport Combi (she loved that first one and was sad when i traded it for the 9000! :).... anyhow... I know all the saab vs GM not a saab arguments out there, but I am really impressed with both my 2006 9-3 and now the 2010 9-3.... the wagon space is very similar to the 9-5 and really practical. The 9-5 has more back seat leg room....
The 9-5 and 9-3 wagons frankly seem like good replacements and are really cheap to purchase and insure. I think they might do well for practicality.
I just got my sister into a 2017 Mazda 3 hatch and love it... the new 2020s or very nice too. Have had a lot of positive experience with mazdas....
I think I am going to try to hang on to the 9000 as long as I can, but the 9-5 wagon may need an upgrade soon... and for me right now its a 2009-2011 9-3 Combi...or a Mazda 3 hatch.
or an alfa :)
but did love my GMC Canyon... love the bench seats!
